MPA Skills offers Pre-Apprenticeships for Painting

A Pre-Apprenticeship course (52824WA Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway-Trades), with a work experience component, will give a student a true insight in to the industry they are considering. This is the first step to potentially gaining a full-time apprenticeship and demonstrates to a potential employer that a candidate has a real idea of what the job is about and what is expected of them.

The units completed on the pre-apprenticeship will be credited against the training completed in your first year of your apprenticeship. MPA Skills will direct you in securing your work experience placement, which forms part of the ‘job hunting’ training each student receives. (Pre-apprenticeship demonstration videos).

Our aim is to make you employable which could ultimately lead to employment by our own Apprentice Employment division for a number of successful candidates.

With the half price training fees for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship currently on as part of the McGowan Government’s WA Recovery Plan and the Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative, there is no better time to start a career in painting and decorating in 2021!

Meet our September 2020 painting pre-apprentice group!

L-R Sophie Di Donato, Anthony Atlas, Tiana Chapman, Kloemeesha Riley, Peter McArthur, Ella Rashleigh, John Reid and Karl Lawrence.
They began at MPA Skills training campus at Maylands, going through all the basics of painting. They have covered subjects including safety, communication, the use of tools and equipment and working at heights. The pre-apps completed two weeks of work experience. We work closely with our MPA Skills Apprentice Employment division to place them out strategically, taking into account their skills, personality, age, location, mobility, etc. This will give them the best possible chance of having a positive experience. After two weeks of work experience, the pre-apps come back to Maylands. We consider all feedback from the host employers and continue to refine and customise their training, completing more units. They do further work experience towards the end of the course. The group completed their goal of finishing their pre-app and start their painting and decorating apprenticeships. Then we can continue to train them in the future to become the next brilliant generation of Painters and Decorators in Western Australia!
